Creating a Livable Future

March 4, 2008

More than 50 people attended this workshop on March 4, sponsored by Climate Justice Chicago. The workshop was designed to connect people to the real work being done in Chicago to avert climate chaos and to dream, plan and begin to talk about sustainability and justice, ensuring all have what they need for a dignified life.

Some of the common themes that are emerging as part of this
new paradigm include:
  • Energy efficiency, conservation and green building.

  • Economic and environmental justice.

  • Food and food security (local & urban agriculture).

  • Green chemistry, bio-based chemicals, clean production.

  • Mass transit: aiming for a cars-are-optional future.

  • Renewable energy: carbon-free and nuclear-free.

  • Zero waste manufacturing, green collar jobs, and worker  rights.
